Safeguarding & Children's Code Statement
LEARN-CO.DE LTD ("learn-co.de", "we", "us", "our")
Version 1.0 — Effective 22 June 2026
The learn-co.de Service is used by children, so protecting them is central to how we build and run it. This statement explains how we approach children's data and how we support schools' safeguarding responsibilities.
The Children's Code (Age Appropriate Design Code)
Because our Service is likely to be accessed by children, we have regard to the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code). In particular:
- Best interests of the child first. We treat the best interests of the child as a primary consideration when designing the Service.
- Data minimisation. We collect only the data needed to deliver computer science teaching and learning.
- High-privacy defaults. Non-essential features are off by default.
- No profiling for marketing. We do not profile children, and we do not use nudge techniques to encourage children to provide more data or weaken their privacy.
- No advertising. We do not show advertising to children and do not use children's data for advertising.
- Transparency. We explain our processing in clear language (see our Privacy Policy).
Supporting schools' safeguarding duties
Schools have safeguarding duties, including under Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). We support these duties by:
- giving schools control over their pupils' accounts and data, including the ability to delete accounts and erase data;
- enabling teachers to monitor pupil-entered content (such as text and code comments) as part of the school's own behaviour and safeguarding processes;
- acting on inappropriate content where it is reported or identified (we reserve the right to remove content and restrict accounts — see our Acceptable Use Policy);
- keeping pupil data secure (see our Security Statement).
We are not a safeguarding authority. Safeguarding concerns about a specific child must always be handled through the school's own safeguarding procedures and Designated Safeguarding Lead. If you have an urgent concern about a child's safety, contact the appropriate authorities.
Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
We help schools complete the DPIA they should carry out before adopting the Service, by providing the information they need about what data we process and how. See our DPIA support information.
