As a subject, mathematics is surprisingly hard to pin down with one catch-all definition.

There is no such thing as “the most interesting aspect of maths”. Yes, numbers are cool, but so is geometry, topology, computer science, cryptography... Mathematics is not simply stuff to do with numbers, but a huge range of topics. So, the idea behind this game is to try to find the area of maths that you enjoy the most!

The game is simple enough: you click on the heart sign to choose between 2 cards, and the card not chosen will be replaced. A card has 2 sides, and you can click on the picture to flip to the backside for more information. Each card represents a mathematical topic with a brief intro on the first side, and a side story or application on the second.

Still not sure how the game works? Play a demo game here with some animal pictures.

P/s: The content of the cards is subject to my own research and preferences, and therefore not representative of the complexities of Mathematics. However, I hope it can be a good opportunity for you to learn something new! The main references for the topics chosen are a book called “The Maths Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained”, plenty of videos from Numberphile and Tom, and the Facebook Group “Mathematical Mathematics Memes”.
